Jackpots to Jaw-Drops: Exploring Vegas and Arizona

Las Vegas | Arizona

Las Vegas to Arizona—bright lights to wide-open desert. This trip is all about contrast: the energy of the Strip, then the quiet beauty of red rocks and endless skies. From neon nights to golden sunsets, it’s a journey that shifts from fast to still, and unforgettable every step of the way.

Two destinations, two completely different vibes, one unforgettable experience. Let the journey begin.

Las Vegas

The first thing you notice in Las Vegas isn’t the casinos—it’s the light. Las Vegas is a city that instantly captures your attention. Rising from the desert, it shines with bright lights, lively streets, and endless entertainment. The heart of the action is the famous Las Vegas Strip, where huge resorts, casinos, and attractions line the boulevard. Walking along the Strip at night feels exciting, with music playing, crowds of visitors exploring, and lights glowing from every direction.

As you stroll down the street, you will see street performers entertaining passersby, limousines pulling up to grand hotels, and people enjoying the city’s vibrant energy. One of the most popular sights is the fountain show outside the elegant Bellagio Hotel that dances gracefully to music, creating a beautiful moment in the middle of the busy city.

I always wanted to visit Las Vegas just to check out the hype created by the movies and the overall perception from people. And finally I got the chance to visit the place and see for myself if the facts check.

Though Las Vegas is often known for its casinos, there is much more to experience here. From incredible shows and world-class restaurants to unique attractions and unforgettable nightlife, the city offers something for every traveler looking for excitement and adventure.

Here’s my day-by-day itinerary, which really worked well for us – both hectic yet free.

Day 1

We reached Las Vegas in the evening, when it was already getting dark because of the Thanksgiving winter. As we got closer to our hotel, the bright lights of the city stood out everywhere. After checking in, we had a good dinner at a nearby restaurant, then took a stroll through the streets, enjoying the lively atmosphere. Since we had a tour planned for the next day, we went to bed early to rest.

Day 2

Our day started early as we had booked a Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon tour. We first stopped at the Hoover Dam.

The Dam was huge and impressive, set between rocky hills. Standing there, looking down at the river below, the view was beautiful. Later, we proceeded to the Grand Canyon. On the way, we saw the Mojave Desert and Lake Powell (the 4th-highest dam in the US).

You can visit/tour the Grand Canyon from 3 sides: South Rim (the most popular, with expansive views), West Rim (closer to Vegas), and North Rim (temporarily closed due to fire damage in 2025). We chose to go to the West Rim side.

Our first stop at the Grand Canyon was Eagle Point. It is a sandstone rock formation that looks like an eagle with wings open, honored by the Hualapai Tribe (the oldest tribe). This point is also famous for the U-shaped glass skywalk. Well, in my opinion, it is overrated and expensive. You can get a similar view from the restaurant up there, where we had our lunch.

To explore the West Rim, you have to take the free shuttle bus run by the Hualapai Tribe, which departs every 15 minutes. The shuttle is part of a guided tour (included in your ticket price) that stops at all the main attractions, including Eagle Point, the Native Traditional Village with its lively cultural dance shows, the souvenir shop/ welcome center, and Guano Point. The loop makes it easy to see all the highlights at a comfortable pace while enjoying the scenery and commentary along the way.

Later in the evening, we went to the Strat Casino, famous for thrilling rides, sky jump, shows, and the observation tower. The tower is the tallest freestanding observation deck in the US. It is 1,149 feet tall with a two-level indoor and outdoor deck, including interactive video maps. It offers the best nighttime view of the entire Las Vegas skyline.

We took the Viator one-day Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon tour as it was convenient. For one, they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. And two its a long drive to reach these places. You almost crossed a couple of states to reach here.

Day 3

On Day 3, we took another tour in Arizona to see Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, both of which are covered in detail in the Arizona section.

Day 4

We kept Day 4 pretty much slow and relaxed. Our morning started with a lavish English breakfast at the popular restaurant Primrose. After that, we did casino hopping (which I have only seen in movies). Though we did not play, we enjoyed the idea of going from one casino to another. We visited about 6-7 casinos, including MGM Grand, MGM Park, New York-New York, Aria, Caesars Palace, The Venetian, Flamingo, and Bellagio, to name a few.

In the afternoon, we went to the Sphere to watch the famous show “The Wizard of Oz”. The sphere is gigantic on the inside, while on the outside it is covered in large LED screens that light up with bright images visible from far away, day or night.

During sunset, we visited the High Roller Wheel, offering a stunning 360-degree view of the city from 550 feet up. The enclosed cabins made the ride comfortable, perfect for enjoying the sparkling lights and capturing great photos. It is also the best spot to watch the sunset, as the Las Vegas skyline glows with the changing colors of the evening sky.

Later in the evening, we visited the Bellagio Hotel to watch the famous Musical Fountain, a spectacular display of water, music, and lights.

Later that night, we enjoyed the David Copperfield Show, a magical performance that left the audience amazed.

Day 5

Day 5 began with a leisurely breakfast, after which we took a stroll along the Strip, soaking in the sun (since it was windy), the daylight views, and the energy of Las Vegas. In the evening, we headed to the airport for our flight back.

Travel Tips for Vegas

Transportation Tip: You can take the tram that connects the west side. It is run by a hotel that connects the MGM/Treasure Island properties free of cost. Alternatively, you can take the Monorail, which covers the approx. 4-mile East side of the strip (MGM Grand to Sahara). The single ride can cost $5.50 to $13, but it is fun exploring it. It is worth it at night, when traffic is heavy, or you are super tired of walking (and can’t really find an Uber).

  • Stay at a hotel on the Vegas Strip to experience more of Vegas.
  • Do watch a couple of shows. They are amazing
  • David Copperfield – A must-watch show in Vegas
  • Strat Hotel – Best View for Night Skyline
  • High Roller Wheel – Best to enjoy Sunset
  • It is better to go without kids; you will enjoy more, especially casino hopping (even if you are not playing), shows, and long walks on the strip.

Arizona

Arizona is known for its striking desert scenery and endless blue skies. From towering red rocks to deep canyon views, the landscape is both dramatic and beautiful. The iconic Grand Canyon draws visitors from around the world who come to see its massive cliffs and winding river far below. Nearby, the red rock formations of Sedona add even more color and charm to the state’s natural beauty.

Day 3

We booked a day tour to Arizona because I wanted to see Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon. Our first stop was Horseshoe Bend, where the Colorado River makes a big curve surrounded by tall red cliffs. A short walk to the viewpoint gave us plenty of time to enjoy the view and take some great photos.

After that, we visited Antelope Canyon, famous for its narrow, winding walls and beautiful light beams that create a magical atmosphere inside. There are 3 options/tours for visiting: Upper Antelope, Lower Antelope, and Canyon X. They are located at different locations, so you need to select carefully. Each tour is guided and lasts approx. 60-90 mins. It is better to go in the morning or early afternoon hours.

grand canyon - lower antelope
  • Upper Antelope is wider and flatter. Good for taking photos, wanting more light rays.
  • Lower Antelope – Is narrower and has narrow steps. It is more adventurous and fun. Here, you go down the steep stairs, then climb up the path.
  • X – This is relatively new and less crowded.

In my opinion, Lower Antelope is the better option if you are visiting for the first time. And if you are not afraid of narrow, steep steps.
