San Diego
San Diego is a sunny city on California’s Pacific coast, famous for its beautiful beaches, parks, and warm, inviting weather. Balboa Park is a highlight, home to the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. It is a city where nature, culture, and the relaxed coastal lifestyle come together perfectly.
Here’s my top 3.
San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is a must-visit place and is often considered one of the best zoos in the world. Many people recommended it to us, and after visiting, I can understand why. The zoo is very large and home to a wide variety of animals, including several rare and endangered species.
We started our visit with the guided bus tour, which gave us a good overview of the zoo. After that, we explored the animal exhibits that interested us the most. The zoo is well organized, making it easy to get around, and the Skyfari aerial tram is a convenient way to see the zoo from above and travel between different areas.
One of the best things about the zoo is the spacious, natural-looking habitats for the animals. We enjoyed seeing elephants, giraffes, lions, and many other animals from around the world. The visit was both enjoyable and educational, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to San Diego.
Take the bus tour first, as it gives a good overview of the zoo, and then you can decide which areas you want to explore in detail.
San Diego Safari Park
The San Diego Safari Park was one of the most amazing places I visited during my trip. Many people only visit the San Diego Zoo because it is more popular, and there is no guarantee you will always see animals here as they can sometimes hide. In my opinion, this park is a must-visit because you can see animals living in more natural, open spaces.
The park is known for experiences like the Lion Camp and cheetah runs. I would recommend starting with the tram ride first, as it gives you a full overview of the park and takes you to areas that you cannot reach on foot. It is also a good idea to do this first because later the queues can get very long, and waiting can take hours, especially with kids.
We took the tram ride first, and it was the best decision. Later, we visited different areas like the lion enclosure, panda habitat, and tiger area. Seeing animals in large open spaces made the visit feel natural and special. We saw giraffes, elephants, pandas, tigers, and many other animals up close. The park is well-maintained and offers a unique wildlife experience. It was a fun and memorable day, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Diego.
Take the tram ride first to avoid long queues and to increase your chances of spotting animals early.
La Jolla Cave
La Jolla Cave is one of the most popular attractions for visitors. The sea lions and seals are the main highlight, and it was fun to watch them resting and playing along the shore. The area is also well known for kayaking, with many people exploring the caves and coastline by kayak.
There is a park nearby with a playground for children, which makes the place very family-friendly. The coastline is beautiful, especially during sunset. We spent a couple of hours sitting by the shore, watching the seals, sea lions, and the sunset. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Los Angeles
I always wanted to visit Los Angeles because it is very famous in movies. I was especially fascinated by shows featuring the LAPD, the Hollywood Sign I often saw in films, the Walk of Fame, and Beverly Hills. All of it felt so interesting on screen that I wanted to see it in real life. Visiting Los Angeles was a great experience for me. It is a lively city known for its beaches, Hollywood, and famous landmarks, and it feels busy and full of life with something happening everywhere you go. During my visit, I explored different parts of the city, from popular tourist spots to local areas, and experienced it beyond what I had seen in movies.
Olvera Street: Birthplace of Los Angeles
This was the first place I visited in Los Angeles. It is known as the “Birthplace of Los Angeles” and is located in downtown LA. The street has a strong Mexican cultural feel.
While walking through the street, we saw small shops selling handmade items, souvenirs, and local food. There was music playing, and the place felt lively and colorful. It was interesting to learn about the early history of Los Angeles.
Griffith Park and Hollywood Sign
Griffith Park and the Hollywood Sign were one of the most awaited places to visit. I knew the sign is far away and cannot be touched, but just seeing it in real life was very exciting.
The view from Griffith Park was beautiful, with the city of Los Angeles spread out below. The walk to the viewpoint was also nice and peaceful. Reaching the spot and finally seeing the Hollywood Sign felt special because it is something I had seen so many times in movies.
It was a simple but memorable experience and one of the highlights of my trip to Los Angeles.
Hall of Fame
The Walk of Fame was a place I really wanted to see in Los Angeles. I had heard from many people that it is very crowded and not very clean, but when I visited, it was quite clean and interesting to walk through.
It was fun to see all the names on the stars along the street, especially the famous actors and artists I knew from movies. The area was busy, but still enjoyable to explore. Walking there and spotting familiar names made the experience feel special.
Overall, it was a simple but nice thing, something I was happy to finally see in person.
Farmers Market
We stopped at the Farmers Market for lunch. It is known for its many food options, and there are a lot of restaurants and stalls to choose from, both indoor and outdoor. You can find different types of cuisine, from simple local food to more high-end choices.
After lunch, we took a walk around the market. It was nice to stroll through the area, look at the shops, and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills was another stop I was looking forward to because it’s so famous in movies like Pretty Woman. The streets were beautiful and filled with high-end stores.
It was more about just walking around and seeing the place in real life. I didn’t do much there, but I enjoyed the vibe and the experience of being in such a high-class area.
Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier was a nice stop. It is a popular spot by the ocean with small rides, shops, and great views of the sea.
We didn’t spend much time here, but I loved some time standing around the pier and enjoying the beach views.
Venice Beach
Venice Beach was a lively and interesting place to visit. The beach was full of energy, with people skating, cycling, and performing along the walkway. There were also many small shops and food stalls nearby.
We walked along the beach and watched all the activities happening around us. It felt very different and more vibrant than other beaches. It was a fun and casual experience by the ocean.
Manhattan Beach
We spent the morning at Manhattan Beach, just sitting by the shore for a few hours and watching the ocean. A few people were surfing, while others were walking and exercising.
There were many birds near the water, moving with the waves and catching fish. Watching them was very calming. I had only seen something like this on TV before, where birds gather, fly, and move together in large groups, so seeing it in real life felt special. It was a quiet and pleasant experience.
Overall, my time in Los Angeles was exciting and memorable. Walking along Hollywood Boulevard, seeing the Walk of Fame, and enjoying the coastal views made the trip special. It gave me a real feel of the city’s culture, energy, and famous places I had only seen in movies before.
I had also visited San Francisco in California earlier. It was a very different experience compared to Los Angeles, with a cooler climate and a more relaxed feel. Both cities are in the same state, but they have a very different vibe.
California is a state that offers so many things to do, with each city giving a very different experience. It made me realize how diverse and interesting California really is.
