Beaches, Highlands, Theme Parks: Malaysia

Langkawi | Sabah | Selangor | Genting | Kuala Lumpur | Putrajaya

I have been to Malaysia place twice, both officially with the company where I was working. My first trip was more fulfilling and relaxed than my second one. I was able to see and explore more of culture and sightseeing in my first trip.

Malaysia

Malaysia is divided into two parts Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. And fortunately I could visit both these parts. And the more I travelled I started loving this place. Few places that I have been:

Langkawi/Kedah

Also known as Jewel of Kedah, is one of the most beautiful island I have ever seen. It is also considered as couple’s paradise, amazing destination for honeymooners.

It has lovely picturesque beaches and sunset looks just beautiful from here. Our hotel where we stayed was itself a picturesque spot. There were only big villas for staying. And one has to take a shuttle from villa to reception or restaurant. It was a beautiful villa hotel. I could have never thought of staying at such a place, but was lucky to got an opportunity to stay here. Had lot of scope of taking pictures at every nook & corner of the entire place.

Tourist spots which i visited during my stay –

  • Dataran Helang – Popularly known as Eagle Square. This place has a giant eagle statue with scenic landscape of pond, bridges & terraces.

  • Pantai Chenang Beach – It was a very quite beach when we went here. I really loved sitting alone and spending some time with myself, although we were a big group of 40 pax.

  • Pantai Tengah Beach –  This beach is famous for doing water sports activities.

  • Underwater World – It is an indoor aquarium. I found this place very average. One can go here if really interested in looking at different fishes and aqua animals.
  • Kuah Jetty – This place is famous for shopping. Got souvenirs for everyone at reasonable price.

Wish to visit this place again. And next time would also include Sky Bridge and Crocodile Adventureland in the itinerary list.

Sabah

It is part of East Malaysia and is famous for cave system and water sports.  My visit to this state was limited to see Gomantong Caves. Watersports activities is possible in many other states and countries. The caves here was the main attraction for me.  We hired speed boats to reach to this place. There is a small pull which one needs to cross to reach here. The caves are enormous and dark. After entering the cave the only thing I saw were thousands of bats on the roof. Initially I got scared and wanted to run from this place. But then I gathered some strength and finally got relaxed. There were only bats and cockroaches all around.

While, returning from our speed boat we had a stopover at the water falls and at eagle point where 40-50 eagle hovering over our head. We didn’t get down from our boat as we were little tired of travelling the whole day.

One should visit this place if one wants to see thousands of bats together and have interest in cave.

One can visit this place while staying in Langkawi, as it just an hour drive.

Selangor

It is majorly famous for theme park. But the most interesting place to visit here Batu Caves. It is one of the most popular iconic attractions here.  The temple is made of limestone and has three main caves on the hill. Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance.

The skyline and city centre view from hill is stunning but there are 250+ steep steps which one needs to climb. And there are lot of monkeys all along the way. One should not carry anything eatables, plate… and even sunglasses. They just take away anything that is hanging.

Batu caves is definitely one time go spot. I really enjoyed climbing. It felt like some expedition.

One can visit this place while staying in Kuala Lumpur, as it just takes couple of hours drive.

Pahang

The city famous for two highland – Cameron Highland and Genting Highland. Cameron highland is famous for farms and tea plantation while Genting Highland is popular for only legal casino.

I have been to Genting Highlands twice. It is a city of entertainment. The two biggest attraction here are Theme Parks and Casinos. If one doesn’t like either of the two then coming to this place is a waste of time.

One needs to take cable car to reach to the top of the highland. The view from the Gondola ride is very nice. One can see the entire valley below.

There are two theme parks – one indoor and one outdoor. A single pass is valid for both the parks, but it is difficult to visit the park in one day.  It takes entire day to cover each park.  The indoor park unique attractions like Ripley’s Museum, Snow World and various performance apart from rides. While, Outdoor Park have bigger and exciting rides.

There are three casinos. All of them are always full of visitors for gambling. There is a restriction of dress code on males while it is allowed to wear anything for females.

I stayed in First World for 2 nights. it is world’s largest hotel with 6,000+ rooms. The room size is small, and food is also very average here. But my overall stay was pleasant. The indoor theme park is almost right inside the hotel which was definitely a plus point.

One can visit this place while staying in Kuala Lumpur, as it just takes couple of hours drive.

Kuala Lumpur

Popularly known as KL, is the capital of the country. It is certainly very populated compared to all other cities. It is mainly known for shopping and business. But in my view shopping is not that cheap and in today’s era, everything is available everywhere. So, I didn’t find anything special here to shop.

The only thing to look forward here are the couple of sightseeing places and food. The food is comparatively good here than other cities in Malaysia.

Few attraction points include:

  • Petronas Twin Tower
Petronas Twin Tower
Petronas Twin Tower
  • KL Tower
  • Cocoa Boutique – It is the largest chocolate factory. And the best part is one can taste whichever chocolate one wish without buying them.
  • Berjaya Times Square – Multistoried mall for shopping.  Huge variety of things available here for shopping.

Putrajaya

Known as the Intelligent Garden City because of lush green plantation and botanical garden all around the city. The city looks like a landscape. But apart from it I didn’t find anything exciting to do.

If one travels to Malaysia, Langkawi and Genting Highlands are must to go. Langkawi is really a beautiful place.

Wish to visit Penang in my next trip to Malaysia.
